McGhee Tyson Airport Breaks All-Time Monthly Passenger Record

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (July 18, 2018)– McGhee Tyson Airport set an all-time record for monthly passenger traffic when it reported 202,122 passengers in May 2018.  With a 13% increase in passenger numbers over May 2017, this marks the airport’s 25th consecutive month of growth.

“Our current economy has allowed both legacy and low-fare airlines to increase aircraft capacity, which has given East Tennessee travelers the opportunity to take advantage of more flights and more destinations,” said Eddie Mannis, Chairman of the MKAA Board of Commissioners.  “With airlines continuing to invest in our market and adding new service, such as Allegiant Air’s base of operations announcement and American Airlines’ announcement of nonstop service to Miami, we anticipate our passenger traffic will continue to increase in the months to come.”

A total of 829,928 passengers have flown through McGhee Tyson Airport during the first five months of 2018, which is a 14% increase over the same period last year.

Allegiant Air, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Frontier Airlines, and United Airlines all reported monthly passenger increases for the month of May 2018.  The overall airport load factor was 84% for the month.
