Summer Travel Meets National Zoo Day

It was a wild day at TYS! We’re celebrating American Zoo Day with some special guests from Zoo Knoxville — yes, real animals at the airport!

Travelers got an up-close look at some amazing creatures: Pedzi, a porcupine, and Einstein, an African grey parrot.

And Einstein also happens to be a special guest on our latest podcast episode, where we go behind the scenes to learn how the zoo relies on aviation to support its critical missions (and even how some animals travel!).

And while not every day at the airport will be a zoo—literally—this summer will be busy at TYS. If you’re traveling this summer, here are a few travel tips to remember:

  • Arrive at the airport at least two hours before your flight.
    • Note: The airport is the busiest between 4am-8am.
  • Check your flight status before heading to the airport.
  • Check real-time airport parking availability before heading to the airport.
  • Pack smart by reviewing TSA guidelines in advance.
  • Make sure you have a REAL ID-complaint form of identification.
  • Follow TYS on social media for real-time construction updates and tips.
