McGhee Tyson Airport (TYS) is pleased to announce that it has been selected to receive $10 million in federal funding under the final round of the FY2026 Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) Airport Terminal Program (ATP).
The funds will support a major expansion of the airport’s security checkpoint—an essential component of Flight Plan, the Metropolitan Knoxville Airport Authority’s 10‑year development strategy designed to modernize facilities, improve efficiency, and enhance the passenger experience.
“This award represents a vital opportunity to modernize our facilities and improve the travel experience for the millions of passengers who rely on McGhee Tyson Airport,” said Patrick Wilson, President of the Metropolitan Knoxville Airport Authority. “Expanding our security checkpoint is a key priority, and this federal investment allows us to move forward with a project that will significantly benefit travelers and our region.”
The Metropolitan Knoxville Airport Authority extends its appreciation to U.S. Senators Marsha Blackburn and Bill Hagerty, U.S. Representative Tim Burchett, and U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, whose support for infrastructure investment has been instrumental in securing this award for East Tennessee.
